frequently asked questions

I am seriously so stinking excited that you’re considering to hire me!

I’ve compiled a list of some frequently asked questions to help ease your mind while deciding if we are the perfect fit! If you have a question that is not listed, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I’ll be happy to answer anything you have!

How would you describe your shooting/editing style?

Oooooh. This is such a great question and I get asked this a lot! Let’s start with my shooting style. I LIVE for the real, raw, and unposed moments that unfold during a session. A lot of my shooting style changes for my clients and what exactly I am shooting. For example, during the wedding day, there are times that I guide and prompt for portraits and then times during the day that I sit back and take the more photojournalistic approach to capture small moments happening throughout the day. No matter what, I will be exactly what my client needs when they need it. Okay, so for editing style! I consider myself somewhere in the middle of bright and airy + dark and moody. I prefer to capture earthy, muted tones, but so much of the moodiness and color of a photo depends on the atmosphere of the image and the emotion being captured. I also feel that my images are equal parts playful and romantic. I’m told often that I am able to capture my couples in their truest forms and allow their personalities shine.

Who is your ideal client?

My ideal client is playful and just giddy in love. I love capturing movement and giggles so I tend to give tons of prompts to help get that out of my clients! If you want every photo heavily photoshopped and forced smiles by your little ones, then we miiiiiiiiiiiiiight not be a good fit. I will always capture smiles and eyes on the camera but majority of our session together will be genuine interaction. My client has to be okay with my corny jokes and the fact that I will cry at your wedding.

Should we hire a second shooter?

In my opinion, yes. There are SO MANY benefits to having a second shooter. First, you’ll receive tons more photos. Plus, you’ll receive different angles and perspectives of different shots. One of my favorite things about having a second is that it helps with crunched timelines. My second can be shooting all the groom and groomsmen shots while I’m shooting bride and bridesmaids. This way it’s like I am able to be in two places at once!

Do you travel for weddings?

UM. ABSOLUTELY. I love love love to travel! I might be based in Tennessee but I will go to any state for my clients. Want to go to Italy, my bags are packed and my passport is ready. One of my favorite things about this profession is the ability to travel all over the country and beyond and capture such beautiful things! I’ve gotten to travel to Colorado, Alabama, the Carolinas, Texas, and will be traveling to Washington later this year! Seriously, pick a place and SHP will be there! I also offer travel discounts for places that are on my bucket list so be sure to ask about those!

Of course! I encourage you to view a full wedding gallery to make sure you love my style of shooting an entire wedding instead of just loving the highlights! Just let me know if you’re wanting to view a gallery and I will get one emailed over to you!

What happens if it rains on my wedding day?

If it rains, then we bring umbrellas! I have around 15 clear umbrellas saved for a rainy day! It actually rained the day of 75% of my weddings last year so I am confident and ready to go- no matter the weather!

How many images will we receive?

Since every wedding and session is different, I never guarantee a specific number. I have no minimum images and no maximum. Now, I typically deliver around 50-60 images per hour for weddings and around 75-100 for lifestyle sessions. So for a full wedding day of 8 hours, my clients would receive around 400-700 images. Factors for adding more photos would be adding a second shooter, doing first looks, and having tons of things at the wedding (lots of details and decor). I am a FIRM believer in quality over quantity. I’m not going to give a client 2,000 images for the sake of giving a client 2,000 images. I give the best and most flattering images without giving thirty of the same pose. Ya feel me?

Should we do a first look?

Yes. Yes. Yes. And yes. Yes, you should do a first look with your groom. Yes, you should do a first look with your dad. Yes, you should do a first look with your bridesmaids. And yes, you should do a first look with your dog. It’s a thing and I’m 100% here for it. But seriously, I feel there are WAY too many perks of doing a first look. It not only gives you more bride and groom portraits, but it is a super special time where it is just the two of you (and well, me too but you would never know I was there!) The wedding day goes by SO QUICKLY and I love giving my couples that time together to take in this special day! And don’t worry, 9/10 grooms still cry when you walk down the aisle so I promise it doesn’t take away from that moment! Another HUGE benefit to doing a first look is that we can knock out almost every photo BEFORE the wedding! Usually the only part left is family portraits (some weddings I’ve even gotten those done before ceremony!) And this is a huge difference in time that your guests are waiting to see you guys. With a first look, I can have you ready for your entrance in about 30 minutes or less. When you opt out of doing a first look, we have to do all of family portraits, all of bridal party, and all of bride and groom portraits so just prepare for your guests having to wait 1-1.5 hours.

Ultimately, it is YOUR decision and I will 100% support it!

We want to book you! What happens next?

AHHHHHH!!! I am so excited that you want to work together! BRB I gotta do my happy dance……………..okay, I’m back! So before we can make this thing official, you’re gonna need to fill out my booking form to make sure that I have your date available. My prime dates book around 12 months out so definitely don’t wait! If I have your date available, then you will sign a contract and pay a $1000 non-refundable retainer fee to hold the date. The remaining amount is due 30 days before your wedding date, but you are welcome to make payments throughout the months leading up. It’s whatever is easiest for you guys!

OH NO! You’re booked on our date. Does this mean goodbye?

Bummer, but no! It’s not goodbye! If I am already booked for your date, then ask about my associate package! You still receive that engagement session with me and all the editing is done by me! The only difference is one of my awesome associates shoots the actual wedding. These are girls who have worked closely with me and are familiar with how I shoot! I have some AMAZING boss babes who associate shoot weddings for me year round so let me know if you still want to be an SHP bride!
